hurdy-gurdy

Merry-go Round: I rode the Hurdy-Gurdy.

Contributor's comments: Term is used in Adelaide. My wife spent childhood at Burra in mid-North of SA and also used the term.

Contributor's comments: We used this name as young kids in the 70's in the New England area to describe an item of public playground equipment. It was a circular platform, which was propelled by hand before jumping aboard and spinning around.

Contributor's comments: In SE QLD in the 50's we call a playground spinning platform a hurdy-gurdy.
